MSF Sweden Innovation Unit
The MSF Sweden Innovation Unit works to promote a culture of innovation within Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Together with colleagues across the world, we design and support innovations that save lives and alleviate suffering.
Accelerating humanitarian health innovation
Our Work
We work to source, support and drive innovations that help solve challenges in Médecins Sans Frontières projects, to ultimately give people better access to medical care. Our efforts are focused on three, often inter-related, topics: digital health, process innovation and planetary health.
-
Digital health tools have the potential to improve healthcare access and quality of care. Today, the application of these tools is still lagging in low- and middle-income countries, despite growing unmet health needs especially in humanitarian settings. We work to support and promote the use of digital tools in the contexts where MSF works, especially focusing on support tools for our patients.
-
Some issues require new tools – others are better tackled through changes to existing practices and ways of workings or the re-purposing or adaptation of existing tools. We work closely with colleagues in MSF projects, patients, and their communities to review and revise existing processes in order to improve the access to, and quality of, the services that MSF provides.

The climate emergency is having devastating consequences for human health. While MSF and many other actors in the humanitarian sector and beyond put much focus on climate mitigation, less focus is put on improving our capacity to respond to and cope with the consequences of climate change. Our planetary health work therefore focuses on climate adaptation.
